Plenty to do. No need to do it all.
A walk by the sea, a good lunch and time to wander can make a very satisfying day. Crown Cove House puts you close to Lowestoft’s seafront, Kensington Gardens and Kirkley, with festivals giving you another reason to visit.
Start with the places nearby and see where the day takes you.
Start with the sea
The beach is moments from the space. Head out for some fresh air, take a stroll along the promenade or find somewhere to sit and watch the water.
If you’re bringing a dog, check the seasonal beach restrictions before setting off. We’ll help you find routes that suit your stay.
Kensington Gardens, close at hand
Kensington Gardens sits on the Kirkley clifftop, with tennis courts, bowling greens, a boating lake and a café. It’s an easy place to include in a leisurely day around the seafront.
If you fancy a game of tennis, check the council’s page for court-booking details.
Have a wander around Kirkley
Kirkley’s High Street has independent shops and places to eat, making it a useful stop for a browse or a break from the beach. We’re happy to share local suggestions once we know what you enjoy.
Breakfast out, a casual lunch or somewhere to take the dog? Ask us and we’ll point you in the right direction.
A little further afield
Oulton Broad and Nicholas Everitt Park
For a change of waterside scenery, head to Oulton Broad. Spend some time by the water, wander through Nicholas Everitt Park and stop for a meal or drink. Our food guide includes The Commodore if you’d like a waterside table.
Carlton Marshes
Carlton Marshes makes a good outing for a walk and a little wildlife watching, with trails through Suffolk wetland scenery and a visitor centre and café. If you bring your dog, keep it on a short lead and follow the reserve’s current guidance.
East Anglia Transport Museum
At Carlton Colville, the East Anglia Transport Museum brings historic transport to life, including trams, trolleybuses and a narrow-gauge railway. Check opening days and special events before setting out, as it does not open every day.
Southwold
Make a day of Southwold’s seaside atmosphere, independent shops and places to eat. It’s an option for exploring more of the Suffolk coast before returning to your own space in Lowestoft.
Beccles and the Waveney
For a different sort of day out, visit Beccles for its town centre and riverside setting on the Waveney. Browse, stop for lunch or plan a riverside outing around the time you have.
Breakfast out. Supper sorted.
Try Sunrise at Marty Boys for breakfast by the beach, stop at The Jolly Sailors for a pub meal or bring back fish and chips from Pakefield Plaice. Our local food guide covers cafés, pubs, restaurants and takeaways around Kirkley, Pakefield and the wider Lowestoft area, with useful notes for guests bringing dogs.
First Light, practically on your doorstep
First Light brings music, art and other events to South Beach, the seafront and Kensington Gardens. Festival activity is around a 30-second walk from Crown Cove House, so you can make a weekend of it with your own place to return to.
The neighbourhood is lively during the festival, which is worth knowing whether you’re coming for the programme or simply booking a coastal break. Visit the organiser’s website for the latest dates, programme and visitor information.
Latitude, with a proper bed at the end of the day
Heading to Latitude at Henham Park? Stay at Crown Cove House and combine the festival with a few days on the coast.
You’ll need to arrange transport to and from the festival. Check the organiser’s travel advice and allow for event traffic when planning your journey.
Bringing your dog to a festival weekend?
Check the event’s own dog policy before booking. Dogs can’t be left alone in the space, but we may be able to help with dog sitting if you arrange it with us in advance.
